“Wonderful Indonesia” at the 37th International Tourism Fair in Belgrade
The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia will traditionally participate at the 37th International Tourism Fair in Belgrade, which will be held from 19 to 22 February. Last year, Indonesia participated with a great success as a country-partner at the 36th Belgrade Tourism International Fair.
This year, with the theme “Wonderful Indonesia”, the rich culture of the most populous and most extensive country in South East Asia will be promoted at the embassy’s stand (Hall 1). The all parts of Indonesia, from the westernmost region of Aceh on Sumatra island, to the eastern part of the province of Papua will be presented.
This year’s theme of Indonesian promotion aims to expand the potentials of tourist destinations of the country to more than 17,500 islands, outside of traditional destinations. It will be shown the richness of the diversity of peoples, cultures, ways of life, natural resources, biodiversity of flora and fauna, as well as the results of economic and social development in Indonesia.
Indonesia during 2014 was visited by 9.44 million foreign tourists, 7.19 percent more than in the previous year. This means that the number of tourists exceeded government’s plan to welcome 9.3 million visitors from abroad.
Regarding the fact that Indonesia, among other things, is the largest archipelago in the world, and it offers many places of interest, for both foreign and domestic tourists, it is considered that the country will be able to record further growth of the tourism industry in the years to come, especially with improving transport infrastructure and service quality.
Currently, the tourism industry in Indonesia makes approximately four percent of the total domestic product (GDP) with a nominal value of 856 billion dollars in 2014. Measured in purchasing power parity (PPP, according to market prices) GDP of Indonesia was estimated to be 2.5 billion dollars last year.
The authorities of Indonesia have set a goal that the tourist industry in 2019 has to make eight percent of GDP. That would mean the creation of a 13 million new jobs in the country with over 250 million people where half of this number is under the age of 30 years.
Indonesian Tourism Minister Arief Yahya set a goal of the arrival of 10 million foreign visitors during 2015, which would mean revenue of over 12 billion US dollars. It was calculated, namely, that in average, the foreign tourist spends $ 1,200in Indonesia.
It is also expected that during this year, Indonesia will record 254 million domestic tourists who will spend 16 billion dollars.
Minister Yahya also said that for the aim of achieving these goals, the government of Indonesia has focused on improving infrastructure (including IT), health and hygiene, as well as internet promotion abroad.
During the fair, the traditional dances of Indonesia will be performed by the dance group of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia “Bidadari” at the stand of Indonesia. Many other interesting activities in which the visitors will be able to participate and win the special prizes will also be organized.
We invite all friends and members of the Serbian-Indonesian Friendship “Nusantara” to visit the booth of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia during their visit to the International Tourism Fair in Belgrade.
