Volcanoes of Indonesia
Closing the annual series of lectures which was organized by Nusantara Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship to celebrate ten years of successful , the association had organized the lecture entitled “About Volcanoes of Indonesia”. The lecture was organized in the cooperation with Belgrade City Library on Monday, December 23, 2013.
The audience was welcome by the general secretary of Nusantara Marko Jelic, who used the chance to express his thankfulness to all of the people who had helped to successfully realize the annual series of lectures. Jelic was grateful to Zoran Filipovic, the leader of the expedition of the Mountaineering club “Zeleznicar”, for sharing his exciting experiences from the trip that everybody was interested to hear about. Filipovic and his crew brought home a photo with the flag of Nusantara association on the top of three most unique Indonesian volcanoes.
The member of managing board of Nusantara, journalist and editor Borislav Korkodelovic, talked about benefits and damages from volcanoes. There are around 400 volcanoes in Indonesia, of which in 2012 there was 126 active volcanoes. In their surroundings there are around 5 million people living in uncertainty. Indonesia lies in the so called Ring of Fire, where eruptions and earthquakes are part of everyday life.
Presentation about Indonesian volcanoes was a story about adventures from conquering volcanoes if Indonesia in 2010 and 2013. Dejan Milicevic, alpinist from the mountaineering club Zeleznicar, shared with the audience about their unusual experiences while climbing active volcanoes of the biggest archipelago in the world.
The group of mountaineers from Belgrade conquered the tops of several volcanoes in Indonesia for the second time: Merapi (2 911m), the most active and probably the most lethal in the central island of Java; Semeru ( 3 676m), the highest peak of Java, and Rinjani (3 726m), the highest peak of Lombok island which lies in the east part of Indonesia.
The group consisted of 13 participants from Serbia, one alpinist from Macedonia, and the trip leader was Zoran Filipovic.
Last October, the expedition was highlighted by many media, who have published interesting reports and photos about it.
After the presentation all of the guests got an instant soup present from Indo Serbia Food company, part of the Indonesian Indofood, the company that gets more popularity and market in Serbia and the region.
