THE VISIT TO GADJAH MADA UNIVERSITY IN JOGJAKARTA
According to the programme of the Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship Nusantara, as stipulated in the Statute (establishing contacts and promoting of the bilateral cultural cooperation between Serbia and Indonesia), Vice-Chairman of the Association, Mr. Monang Pandjaitan, MSc. Phil., on the occasion of meeting of Indonesian schools and foreign students’ representatives organised by the Indonesian Ministry of Education in Jogjakarta, paid a visit to the University Gadjah Mada (UGM) Rectorate on 7th November 2008 and met with Dr. Rachmat Sriwidjaj, Head of UGM Department for International Exchange and his Deputy, Mrs. Rio Rini Diah Moeharjarti, M.A.
The meeting was held in a friendly atmosphere and the participants exchanged their views on possibilities of establishing relations and cooperation between the Belgrade University and UGM. UGM representatives welcomed the idea and expressed their readiness to establish contacts shortly; they also proposed signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) as the first step for the foundation of future relations and collaboration of the two Universities. They also said that they would be glad to send a delegation, most likely to be headed by the Rector of UGM, that would participate in the World Summit of University Rectors, with the subject of current trends in higher education, which coincides with the Fourth Rectors’ Forum of the International University Sport Federation (FISU) to be held in Belgrade between 2nd – 5th April 2009.
After his return to Belgrade on 27th November 2008, Mr. Monang Pandjaitan, together with Mr. Bata Lukic, visited Mrs. Branka Janda-Markovic, BSc. Phil. Mr., Head of the Department for International Cooperation of Belgrade University and briefed her on the meeting in Jogjakarta. Mrs. Janda-Markovic received the news with enthusiasm and promised to personally contact the UGM representatives. We are happy to confirm, according to our recent information, that first contact has been established by exchanging notices.
