PROMOTING THE ECONOMIC COOPERATION WITH INDONESIA
Vice-President of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce Dr.Stojan Jevtic, on 5th December 2008 received H. E. Mr. Muhammad Abduh Dalimunthe, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia and his associates at the PKS. The idea of the meeting was initiated by the the Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship and its Chairman, Dragovan-Bata Lukic participated in the talks.
At the meeting, the Vice-President Jevtic thanked to the Ambassador Dalimunthe for all his efforts aimed at the promotion of economic co-operation, as well as the Indonesian Government for maintainig friendly relations with Serbia since the times of the Non-Aligned Movement. The meeting was organised with the purpose of presenting two items: to furnish the Ambassador with the list of companies interested in cooperating with Indonesia, and also with the list of Serbian exporters.
Serbia is able to offer cooperation in many branches of economy. Special attention was given to agricultural collaboration, as the list submitted contains three Institutes for agricultural research and one Institute for human medicine. PKS may organise visits to these Institutes so that modes of cooperation could be discussed in more details.
Ambassador Dalimunthe thanked for the meeting and the information he received. He pointed out that there are improvements in economic cooperation and stated that in 2007 only three firms from Serbia had visited the General Fair in Jakarta, and this year that number increased to nine. He said that Indonesia needs electric power and power plants that would produce significant quantity of energy. Indonesia also imports 200.000 tons of meet per annum as it only produces one million of cattle, which does not cover its needs and the Ambassador beleived that Serbia could find its interest in this field as well. Indonesia is the member of ASEAN and now with the beginning of the negotiations on the free trade zone mostly for food products, Indonesia would be able to export its produce to Singapore, Malaysia and other countries duty free.
Vice-President Jevtic pointed out that the Cable Factory from Jagodina would soon be offerd for sale at a Tender, and this plant has in its production program the energy cables needed by Indonesia, so it was suggested that the Ambassador and his associates should visit this factory during December. Chairman of the Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship, Bata Lukic, proposed also a visit to Minel Engineering, which once had two contracts for construction of sugar factories in Indonesia and currently has projects in Egypt. Vice-President Jevtic also suggested a visit to Minel Mladenovac and Minel Ripanj, Converter factory and the suggestions were accepted by the Indonesian side, so that the visits are planned to be carried out in the following period.
