NUSANTARA VISITED ŠID AND MOROVIĆ
On the first day of April 2023, members of The Association Of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship NUSANTARA visited the western part of Srem. First, with a local guide, they visited the permanent exhibition and art exhibition in the memorial park “Sremski front”, a landmark of exceptional importance in Serbia, located next to Adaševci village, on the territory of the Šid municipality. In that area, during the war years of 1944-45., the Sremski front (the Srem front) was created, the largest front-line operation on the territory of Yugoslavia in the Second World War, during which, more than 15.000
Soldiers perished, mostly youths.
After that, we visited the centre of Šid to see the permanent exhibition of the paintings gallery „Sava Šumanović“, which keeps the art of one of the biggest Serbian painters Sava Šumanovića (1896-1942), as well as the permanent exhibition of the Museum of Naif art “Ilijanum”, where the painting of Ilija Bašičević Bosilj (1895-1972) are exhibited, a painter that achieved international recognition during his lifetime.
The group then visited the monastery dedicated to Saint Petka Trnovska in the village of Berkasovo. This shrine became a monastery on the day of the church slava, on August the 8th, 2008, and represents the westernmost monastery of Fruška Gora, today, it is a women’s monastery. This place originally housed a log cabin church, built next to a source of healing water, and today’s church of Saint Petka dates back to the second half of the 19th century.
The members of the Association decided to spend most of their time in the “Morović” military institution, mostly due to its incredible nature. To begin with, in the “Košuta” restaurant, accompanied by a local folk music orchestra. With a songs and good mood, they even managed to “summon” the sun and in that way dispel the clouds and rain that had been falling since the trip. After socializing, the our members, accompanied by the manager of the complex, Daliborka Rajnić, walked through the green spaces of Morović, and then they visited the villa “Srna”, which was built for the needs of the former Yugoslav president Josip Broz Tito, and which today can be rented by interested parties for the purpose of organizing business or private events, as well as in order to rest from the hectic everyday life.
