MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA MARTY NATALEGAWA TOOK PART IN THE COFERENCE OF NON-ALIGNED MOVEMENT IN BELGRADE
The ministerial conference marking the 50th anniversary of the first conference of Non-Aligned Movement in Belgrade gathered more than 100 delegations. It was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, H.E. Dr. Marty Natalegawa.
During the first day of the conference, the Minister gave a speech at the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, where the founding conference of the Non-Aligned Movement was held in 1961.
Following the first day of the conference, Minister Natalegawa stayed at the residence of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, where he met with H.E. Ambassador Samuel Samson, diplomats, and other representatives of the Indonesian community in Serbia. On that occasion he also met with the officials of the Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship “Nusantara”.
Addressing the guests of the conference, the minister pointed out that he admired Belgrade and the role it had in establishing international relations, which date back to the time of Yugoslav President Josip Broz Tito.
The Minister stressed the importance of friendship between the two countries, wishing the relations between Serbia and Indonesia to deepen and broaden, on the foundations laid by Presidents Tito and Sukarno.
Dr. Natalegawa said he believed he would visit Belgrade and Serbia again in the future.
Ambassador Samson informed the Minister on current issues and work plans of the Indonesian Embassy and Indonesian School in Belgrade, which is an educational center for Indonesian citizens from the region and stressed the importance of support provided by the members of “Nusantara” Association in the realization of the Embassy program.
The chairman of “Nusantara” Association, Mr. Dragovan Bata Lukic introduced the Minister to the goals and basic activities of the Association. As a gesture of respect and a memory of his stay in Belgrade Minister was given a book “Cultural Treasure of Serbia” in English.
During the second day of his visit to Belgrade, Minister Natalegawa met with H.E. President of the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Boris Tadic, H. E. Minister of Defence Mr. Dragan Sutanovac and H. E. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Vuk Jeremic and signed two intergovernmental agreements.
