MARZUKI ALIE, SPEAKER OF THE INDONESIAN HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES IN A FOUR-DAY VISIT TO SERBIA
In the period from June 4 to June 8, for the first time in the history of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Dr. Marzuki Alie paid a four-day working visit to the Republic of Serbia at the invitation of National Assembly Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic.
This largest parliamentary delegation, which in 57 years of diplomatic relations visited our country, was received by the National Assembly Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic, President Tomislav Nikolic, Prime Minister Ivica Dacic, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Domestic Trade and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajic, and the management of Jugoimport-SDPR JP.
The National Assembly Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic thanked Alie for not recognizing the independence of Kosovo. Stefanovic said that this was a historic visit that would, hopefully, mark the beginning of the “prosperous cooperation between Serbia and Indonesia in all fields, particularly in the field of economic relations.”
Stefanovic noted that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding in Jakarta in March should further improve relations between the two countries.
Marzuki Alie said he hoped that the relations between Serbia and Indonesia should soon become strategic primarily in the political and economic sense, because according to him, the two countries share the same views on economy, trade, and investment policy, which should also be the focus of our cooperation.
Prime Minister Ivica Dacic and President Tomislav Nikolic expressed their gratitude to the guests from Indonesia for the principled and firm support to Serbia in solving the problems in Kosovo and Metohija, in accordance with the principles of international law.
During a meeting with the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Marzuki Alie, President Nikolic said that the bilateral relations between the countries are very good, but that there was room for the improvement in the field of economy.
Alie expressed his gratitude for the warm hospitality and emphasized that Indonesia respected the development of relations during the establishment of Non-Aligned Movement.
In his talks with Deputy Ljajic, Alie encouraged the construction companies from Serbia to take part in the implementation of the Master Plan of Indonesia’s economy, which envisages the construction of six major road corridors on the largest islands of the country.
Indonesian parliamentary delegation was also hosted by JP JUGOIMPORT SDPR, and had the opportunity to get acquainted with the beauties of Karadjordjevo.
On the fourth day of his visit Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Dr. Marzuki Alie, was the guest of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia. In addition to diplomats and officials of the Embassy, Indonesian community in Serbia, the reception was attended by the members of the Board of the Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship “Nusantara”.
Aleksandar Rakovic, Chairman of the Association, greeted Dr. Marzuki Alie and in a token of friendship, handed him the book “Cultural Treasury of Serbia” in English.
During the event, the guests were entertained by a music band of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, including Boris Vancev and Nebojsa Pavlovic, members of the Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship “Nusantara”.
