The Association of Serbian – Indonesian Friendship “Nusantara” and the City Municipality of Vracar organized the opening ceremony of the exhibition of paintings “Indonesia as an inspiration”, made by the members of the Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship “Nusantara”, at the gallery of the City Municipality of Vracar in Belgrade on Tuesday, May 24th 2016, at 7 p.m.

Indonesia with more than 17,500 islands, more than 300 people, with three time zones, intersected by the equator, with a large number of active volcanoes and lush vegetation, was an inspiration to many, including the painters, members of the Association. Some of the artists have been in this, in many ways unique country, but there are also those who have sought inspiration in browsing books, watching numerous TV shows and documentaries, browsing web pages, in the quest for new knowledge while dreaming of Indonesia.

While analyzing the joy of the game, colors, exoticism and strength of unity in diversity, the painters, members of the Association, found the inspiration for their artistic expression and painted Indonesia as their impression.

The relations between Serbia and Indonesia have been good for six decades, and have shown constant advancement in all aspects. We believe that the Association with its long-term activities has contributed to these relations to become even more substantial, especially in the area of culture and art.

With a great pleasure, the painters, members of the Association, are showing this exhibition to everyone who likes to explore Indonesia, geographically remote country, and its people, their customs, culture and art.

The opening was attended by the Ambassador of Indonesia in Serbia, Mr. Harry Richard James Kandou, Mr. Jose João Manuel, ambassador of Angola, and Mr. Constantinos Eliades, ambassador of Cyprus, as well as Vladimir Bozovic, Special Adviser to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, members of the Indonesian community in Serbia and members and friends of the Association of Serbian-Indonesian friendship “Nusantara”.

On behalf of the municipality, the guests were greeted by Nebojsa Milicevic, member of the municipal Council, who said for the occasion: “The Association of Serbian-Indonesian friendship “Nusantara” has enabled us to meet the culture and traditions of Indonesia. In this relatively small space such an ancient, diverse and fascinating culture cannot be properly represented, but the exhibited work inspires us to get to know and feel a part of the Asian culture. The impressions provoked by the paintings, inspired by this country of lush vegetation, thousands of islands, plenty of volcanoes, diverse culture and customs, are numerous “.

The musical part of the evening was enriched by students of the “Davorin Jenko” music school from Belgrade and members of the dance group “Bidadari” from the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, which performed a traditional Indonesian dance.

WELCOME

It is our great pleasure to greet you on behalf of The Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship “Nusantara” and welcome you to this exhibition, organized in honor of the friendship between our two nations.

Indonesia and Serbia have had friendly relations established by the statesmen of Indonesia and Yugoslavia in the middle of last century. Deep mutual understanding and collaboration, especially within the Non-Aligned Movement, created diverse aspects of vast cooperation.

Based on the close relations between Yugoslavia, nowadays Serbia, and Indonesia, on August 17th 2003, (the day of celebration of the Independence day of the Republic of Indonesia) the newly established Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship “Nusantara” was solemnly promoted. The Association is a nongovernmental and non-profit organization, aimed at contributing to the preservation of, deepening and strengthening friendly relations between the people of our two countries, and willing to be the link between the institutions of the two countries, contributing with its activities to the development of bilateral relations. Since its inception, the Association has been supported in its work by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Belgrade, therefore the first adviser to the president of “Nusantara” nowadays is still H.E. Mr Harry Richard James Kandou, plenipotentiary and extraordinary Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia.

With more than 17.500 islands, more than 300 nations, three time zones, intersected by the equator, with a large number of active volcanoes and lush vegetation, Indonesia has been inspiration to many, and so has been to painters, members of the Association.

Due to the fact that the present relations between the two counties are strong, the desire of the leaders of both countries is to promote cooperation in all aspects. We believe that “Nusantara” has also stimulated the progress of the relations in the area of culture and art through its activities.

With a great pleasure, the painters, members of the Association, are showing this exhibition to everyone who likes to explore Indonesia, geographically remote country, and its people, their customs, culture and art.

We are sure that this exhibition is another important cultural event in the decades-long series of events proving friendship between Serbia and Indonesia.

We also sincerely hope that this exhibition will arise the interest of many artists and other citizens in visiting this friendly country.
We believe that this, as well as similar, exhibitions will encourage the efforts not only made by “Nusantara”, but also by the competent cultural institutions of our two countries to enrich their programs of exchange in the area of art and culture.
