NUSANTARA SOCIETY ELECTS NEW LEADERSHIP – REGULAR ASSEMBLY HELD
At the regular assembly of the Serbian-Indonesian Friendship Society NUSANTARA, the results of the Society’s work in the past period and plans for future activities were presented. At the same time, a new leadership of the Society was elected, which will continue to strengthen the cooperation and friendship between the two nations through its work. The new president of the NUSANTARA Society, Vuk Mirčetić, firstly thanked H.E. Mochammad Chandra Widya Yudha, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Serbia, for the firm and consistent stance of the Republic of Indonesia in preserving the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia and not recognizing the so-called Kosovo and Metohija. He added that a great challenge lies ahead of the new leadership. It must continue to work more vigorously and introduce innovations in its activities, which will be crucial for cultural cooperation and connecting both nations.
H.E. Mochammad Chandra Widya Yudha expressed great satisfaction in assisting the work of the Society with his advice, considering it an instrument of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia for strengthening cooperation between the two countries and contacts among people. He emphasized that the Embassy will always support the Society wholeheartedly.
Dr. Aleksandar Raković, the outgoing president of the Society, who will continue his work as an advisor to the president of the Society, also highlighted that it is time for new energy, new strength, and new people who will continue to work on strengthening the friendship between Serbia and Indonesia.
The Secretary General of the Society, Marko Jelić, emphasized that over the 21 years of its existence, the members have made an exceptional contribution to maintaining the great friendship between the peoples of Serbia and Indonesia, which obliges the new leadership to continue building bridges between Serbia and Indonesia to further strengthen and bring closer the two nations. NUSANTARA is an example of perseverance. During the past period, Indonesian Days were organized in many cities in Serbia, over 80 excursions were held, more than 30 exhibitions, lectures, and panel discussions. The plan is to work even better and stronger in the future, with the Society being additionally committed this year to marking the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Serbia and Indonesia.
The Serbian-Indonesian Friendship Society NUSANTARA was founded in 2003 with the aim of becoming the core of the non-governmental sector in strengthening relations between Serbia and Indonesia. Through its activities, NUSANTARA helps establish cooperation in the fields of culture, art, education, sports, but also contributes to strengthening and developing political and economic relations and cooperation between Serbia and Indonesia, serving as a kind of “bridge” to developing overall bilateral relations between traditionally friendly countries.
Last year, the Public Enterprise “Post Office of Seerbia“ issued a personalized postage stamp on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the existence of the NUSANTARA Society, and this year it will issue a appropriate postage stamp on the occasion of the jubilee – 70 years of diplomatic relations between Serbia and Indonesia.
The NUSANTARA Society has 180 members, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia, Mochammad Chandra Widya Yudha, is the first advisor to the president of the Society.
