A trip to Braničevo
On the occasion of the beginning of the mandate of the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Serbia, H.E. Mr. Harry E. James Richard Kandou, in the year in which we celebrate 70 years of independence of the Republic of Indonesia, the Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship “Nusantara”, for its members, friends, business partners , the ambassador and diplomats of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Belgrade, organized a trip to Braničevo.
On Saturday, May 23, “Nusantara” led by H.E. Mr. Kandou, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Serbia, headedto Požarevac region. Members and friends of the Association, with the diplomats visited the archaeological park Viminacium, rich archeological site on the location of the former Roman city and legionary camp, where their attention was attracted by Roman baths, Mammoth Park and Villa Rustica, summer villa of the Roman emperor, with the expert guidance of PhD Nemanja Mrđić, from the Archaeological Institute Belgrade.
Our delegation, at the City Hall of Požarevac, was welcomed in an informal and friendly visit by Bane Spasović, the Mayor of Požarevac. In the honor of His Excellency and members of “Nusantara”, the city women’s choir “Barilli” sang the national anthem of Indonesia and Serbia. Braničevo was traditionally region of the family Obrenović which is witnessed by the repertoire of the choir; Visitors could also enjoy, ” My thoughts are restless” (Što se bore misli moje) a love song once written by the Prince Mihajlo Obrenović, as well as “Arise, Serbia“ (Vostanie Serbia) the Anthem of the Principality of Serbia. The guests from Indonesia and Belgrade attended the presentation of the promotional movie “Travel Postcard from Požarevac” in English language. Visit to Požarevac was completed with a lunch at the restaurant “Inn”.
Although it was a friendly visit without formal accent, citizens of Požarevac have organized a cocktail party, conscious of their high-ranking guests from the far and friendly country. A short city stay was the occasion for an exchange of gifts.
In addition to Viminacium and Požarevac, the delegation visited the horse stud farm in Ljubičevo, the complex of 240 acres named in honor of the Princess Ljubica Obrenović, world – known for the unique cultural event “Ljubičevo horse races” which is held every year in September.
On this occasion, the Association “Nusantara” wishes to express special thanks to our hosts for their kindness and attention that is drawn to its members every step during their stay in Požarevac, as well as to express gratitude for their efforts to present their region and their tradition in a positive way to foreign and domestic guests.
This is an opportunity for the Association “Nusantara” to express special thanks to the director of “Beocontrol doo”, who had a great understanding and goodwill, and helped to provide a free of charge bus service during our trip.
