Trip to the Valjevo mountains

The NUSANTARA society organized its first trip in 2021., a tour of the Valjevo mountains.

After the first morning coffee in the „Platani“ restaurant near Valjevo, the excursionists visited the Jovanja monastery, situated on the road to Bajina Bašta, on the right side of the gorge of the Jablanica river. Afterwards, they visited the Rovni dam, a reservoir supplying water the municipalities and settlements downstream of Valjevo.

In the Pustinja monastery, the travelers could enjoy frescoes from the Middle Ages and in the wonderful natural ambience, so afterwards, in the hamlet Bebića Luka, of the village  Vujinovača, visited one of the oldest villages of Serbia. They refreshed themselves in the courtyard of the former elementary school, the inside of which, today holds the educational centre „Episkop Milutin“, in which the citizens’ association „Zagrljaj“ operates, whose host was Lepa Pirgić.

A real attraction was the visit to the lookout Lazareva stena (Velika stena) above lake Rovni, from which a beautiful view is given to the lake and the mountains of Valjevo, after that, had lunch in restaurants in Valjevo, where they also visited Tešnjar, a part of old Valjevo.
