THE EXCURSION TO RAM AND GOLUBAC
Accompanied by several diplomats and employees of the Embassy of Myanmar in Serbia, NUSANTARA went on an excursion again on Saturday, April 28th. This time the chosen part of Serbia toured by members of the Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship was Lower Podunavlje.
The excursion started with a visit to Banatska Palanka, also known by the name of Stara Palanka. In the small town, also said to be „a place with ten houses and fifteen inns“, members of the Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship were given some spare time they could use on their own; some opted for refreshments at restaurants along the Danube shore, others for a stroll along the surroundings, a chat with friendly locals…
Crossing the Danube by ferry was quite some experience for the travellers, especially for the guests from Myanmar. Members of the Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship NUSANTARA were transported by ferry from Banatska Palanka to Ram, where they could see a fortress of the same name, erected on the cliff. The Fortress of Ram is one of the oldest artillery fortifications in Lower Podunavlje. Since 2013, the Fortress has been under reconstruction, financed by TIKA, Turkish Agency for Restoration and Economic Development, and the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia.
The Fortress of Ram was not the only one seen by NUSANTARA on its Saturday’s excursion. The road led from the Ram fortification and village of the same name to Golubac, where the travellers had a lunch break and a chance to spend their spare time walking around and taking pictures of the Fortress of Golubac.
An attraction of its own was the Tumane monastery, known as „The Ostrog of Đerdap“ as well, where members of the Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship NUSANTARA heard an inspired monk’s story about this place of worship that counts, among its numerous curiosities, on the fact of having even two founders. Miloš Obilić had the monastery built in the XIII century; the other benefactor was king Aleksandar I Karađorđević.
The Saturday’s excursion ended by a tour of the „Ljubičevo“ horse farm near Požarevac. This was already the second time the Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship NUSANTARA was visiting the region of Braničevo; members of the Association had visited the estate of Ljubičevo in May 2015, and the visit back then counted on the presence of His Excellency Mr. Harry Richard James Kandou, ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia in Serbia.
NUSANTARA partly financed the realization of the excursion.
