THE EXCURSION TO THE KOLUBARA MINING BASIN

THE EXCURSION TO THE KOLUBARA MINING BASIN

NUSANTARA’s visit to The Mining Basin of „Kolubara“ meant the beginning of this year’s tours across Serbia. On Saturday, March 25th, the members of The NUSANTARA Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship headed to the largest surface mine in the Balkans.

The very first spot on their agenda for that day was The Tamnava West Field. An expert guide was assigned to NUSANTARA by the top management of The Mining Basin of „Kolubara“; while visiting the first mine, thus, the members of the Association were informed by Mr. Slobodan Radosavljević, holder of a PhD in Mining and Geo-Resources Engineering, that „one of the two light bulbs lit in the Republic of Serbia shines thanks to „Kolubara“’s lignite“!

That Saturday NUSANTARA also saw Tamnava’s free flaw lake, the oldest „Kolubara“’s locomotive, displayed in the village of Vreoci, representing a real museum exhibit nowadays, had a chance to admire „the moonlike landscape“ on The D Field in Medoševac and completed its tour with a visit to The Seed-plot in Baroševac. A special curiosity of this seed-plot is a 24-sequoia avenue; seed-beds of the most diverse trees, fruit trees and plants stand there as a testament to what the landscapes of the Kolubara region will look like one day when there will be no coal any longer. A real „postcard from the future“!

The road led further to Lazarevac. In its Modern Gallery NUSANTARA was welcomed and hosted by Mr. Bojan Veljović, official of the local municipality. The members of The NUSANTARA Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship had an opportunity to see the extraordinary and extraordinarily rich “Legacy of Lepa Perović“, donated to the City of Lazarevac by the well-known art collector.

A special attraction of the programme for that day was NUSANTARA’s visit to The Church of Great Martyr Dimitrije in Lazarevac and Memorial Centre within the Church’s crypt, singular place in the world, containing mortal remains of approximately 20.000 Serbian and 30.000 Austro-Hungarian soldiers, killed in the Battle of Kolubara.

The excursion ended in the Winery „Zorča“ in Petka, village near Lazarevac, located under the Hill of Čovka. While visiting the Memorial Centre, the members of The NUSANTARA Association already learnt why the Hill of Čovka had been a place of such importance to the Serbian history – the bloodiest combats deciding the winner of the Battle of Kolubara were fought there.

By courtesy of Mr. and Mrs. Jovanović, owners of the Winery, the members of the Association were offered the wines signed by „Zorča“ and catering for free.

That Saturday the members of The NUSANTARA Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship were accompanied by Mr. Darwin Antonio Castillo Chacón, consul of the Embassy of Venezuela in Serbia.
