THE EVENING OF TRAVEL WRITING BY MARIJA SAVIN “THE INFLUENCE OF INDONESIAN CULTURE TO THE ART OF SOUTHEAST ASIA TO CAMBODIA AND MALAYSIA”
The evening of travel writing “The Impact of Indonesian culture to the art of Southeast Asia (to Cambodia and Malaysia)” by the travel writer and publicist Marija Savin, was organized by the Belgrade City Library and the Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship “Nusantara”
The stay of Cambodian and Malaysian princes in Indonesia left great similarities in architecture, particularly in Hindu and Buddhist temples, art, dance, literature and numerous crafts of the three countries in Southeast Asia.
Therefore, the lecture of Marija Savin was a multimedia presentation about her journey to Cambodia, Malaysia and the Indonesian archipelago including the presentation of culture, art and identity of the people in the region.
The author drew a special attention to the strong influence of Indonesia in South East Asia. The builders in Indonesia left impressive temples of volcanic rocks, while the Khmers used stone and sandstone and Malaysians the depths of the caves.
Temples reflect spiritual strength of the people and the influence of the rulers to the development of culture through strong industry and economy. Numerous migrations, immigrations and displacements brought the influence of other cultures to these countries. However, they managed to maintain their identity.
Her impressions of the journey through Indonesia, Marija Savin recorded in the book “Put ka Suncu” (Road to the Sun) and impressions of Asian countries, including Cambodia and Malaysia in the book “U dodiru sa nebom” (In touch with the sky).
The presentation was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Serbia H.E. Semuel Samson, and on behalf of “Nusantara” Association the guests were greeted by its chairman Dr Aleksandar Rakovic.
Traditionally, the representatives of “IndoSerbiaFood” distributed packages of instant soup and noodles, a product with an increasing popularity on the markets of Serbia and the region.
“Nusantara” was founded in 2003 and have been striving to become the core of the non-governmental sector strengthening the relations between Serbia and Indonesia.
In the year when it celebrates its 10th anniversary, “Nusantara” is helping cooperation between the two geographically distant countries in the field of social issues, arts, education, culture and sports.
The Association also supports the strengthening and development of political and economic relations between Serbia and Indonesia, acting as a sort of a “bridge” in the development of overall bilateral traditional friendly ties between the two countries.
