„INDONESIA – MILKY WAY OF THE OCEAN“ EVENING OF TRAVEL WRITING WITH SONJA LAPATANOV
On September 30, in the Roman Hall of the Belgrade City Library, the Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship “Nusantara” and the Belgrade City Library organized an evening of travel writing “Indonesia – Milky Way of the Ocean” with Sonja Lapatanov – ballerina, choreographer and travel writer.
This multimedia presentation was a part of the celebration of the 10th anniversary of “Nusantara” Association. It was an inspiring story full of powerful impressions of a well-known travel writer who crossed 37,200 kilometres during her journey to Indonesia starting from Belgrade, across the world all the way to the islands of Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Irian Jaya, Bali, Flores, Komodo, and Rinca.
Number of those admiring the beauties and cultures of distant countries, adventure lovers, a new generation of world travellers, had the opportunity to hear first-hand about Indonesia, a country whose geographical position, among India and the Pacific, the People’s Republic of China, Japan and Australia, makes it inevitable destination.
Lapatanov, a renowned travel writer, with her sincerity and affinity towards exploring and understanding distant and extraordinary people and their customs, different cultures and unexplored land, tried to bring Indonesia closer to Serbian Globetrotters, as well as to those who are not ready to leave their warm homes to start their own great adventure, believing that lectures and books can be the door to the world.
Currently, the author is taking final steps towards publishing her book about Indonesia, “U predelu zemljinog kaiša” and she used this evening of travel writing as a special opportunity to share her impressions.
The guests were welcomed by the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Serbia H.E. Mr Samuel Samson, and on behalf of the Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship “Nusantara” its President Dr Aleksandar Rakovic.
Sonja Lapatanov, ballerina, choreographer, classical ballet teacher, and a travel writer, gained her professional training in Moscow and New York, and was a prominent soloist of the National Theatre in Belgrade. She has won many significant Yugoslav and Serbian professional and community awards, including Sterija Award and the Golden Link award of the Cultural and Educational Community of Belgrade which is awarded for a lasting contribution to culture and more successful spiritual life of the city. She has travelled more than 120 countries and has been writing travel stories since 1995.
Dereta Publishing House has published four books of Lapatinov’s travel writings: “U skutima Himalaja“, “Rajska ostrva“, “Mama Afrika – kolevka čovečanstva“ and “Mundo Maya“. She is now working on her fifth book “U predelu zemljinog kaiša”, which is dedicated to Indonesia.
