“NUSANTARA” ASSOCIATION HELD ANNUAL ASSEMBLY DR ALEKSANDAR RAKOVIC – NEW CHAIRMAN OF THE ASSOCIATION
At the regular annual meeting held on 25 January 2012, the Association of the Serbian-Indonesian Friendship “Nusantara”, appointed new Chairman, Mr Aleksandar Rakovic, doctor of historical sciences.
Dr Rakovic was appointed Chairman of “Nusantara” association at the suggestion of his predecessor Mr Dragovan Bata Lukic who had successfully led the Association for the past five and a half years.
Mr Lukic was among thirty people who founded “Nusantara” association on August 17, 2003 – the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia, led by the late Ambassador Professor Miodrag Trajkovic Ph.D. and retired Colonel of Yugoslav Army Mr Bogdan Petrovic. Mr Lukic said he was honored to be the Chairman of the Association since 2006.
“Everything that has been achieved since then could not have been achieved without the generous help of other “Nusantara” members” said Lukic who expressed gratitude to numerous members of the Association for their support in the implementation of a series of programs and events that contributed to improving, strengthening and deepening of friendly relations between the two countries. He specifically thanked former Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia Mr Ladjuris during whose term “Nusantara” association was founded, and the latter ambassador Mr Dalimunte for his understanding and support to the Association. He welcomed the new Ambassador, Mr Semuel Samson, who keeps the tradition of helping the Association in all its initiatives and programs.
The former Chairman of the Association particularly welcomed the presence of the Serbian Ambassador to Indonesia, HE Mr Jovan Jovanovic. Mr Lukic also greeted Miss Milinka Radisic, a top Indonesian DJ of Serbian origin who performed in Serbia in the second half of January.
Association members and officials of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia who gathered in the ceremonial hall of “Savski venac” Assembly sincerely thanked Mr Lukic for his hard work in leading “Nusantara”. He initiated a series of actions which made “Nusantara” a role model and one of the most involved associations of friendship with other nations in Serbia. Giving award to the former Chairman, some members of the Association expressed confidence that Mr Lukic will still be very much needed to the Association due to his extensive professional experience and many years of social engagement.
Two other members of the Management Board (MB) were also appointed at the suggestion of Mr Lukic: a university professor and one of the leading Serbian historians, a university professor, Dr Ljubodrag Dimic and Imam Mustafa Jusufspahic, director of “Halal” company. The appointment of Dr Dimic and Mr Jusufspahic completed the “Nusantara” Management Board which now counts 11 members.
The attendees were addressed by the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia in Serbia, HE Mr Semuel Samson who observed that “people in Serbia are working quickly, and that departure of the former Association Chairman came as a surprise to him. Ambassador Samson paid tribute to the leadership of “Nusantara”, especially to Mr Lukic and the proper democratic process of appointing the “first man” of the Association. He also thanked Mr Lukic for his long-term comprehensive support to the Indonesian embassy, and asked Mr Lukic to stay an active member of “Nusantara”.
Ambassador Samson said that Association needed regeneration, and that he wished to see more young people at the next Assembly. He thanked old members who could give wise advice.
He supported the new Chairman and invited him to successfully lead “Nusantara”, just as his predecessor did. He wished the Chairman of the Association to be in harmony with Association members and Association members to support the new Chairman.
Ambassador Samson said that this Assembly could be considered historic because for the first time since the founding of the Association it brought two ambassadors together – both Indonesian and Serbian. Ambassador Samson suggested Ambassador Jovanovic to help organize and establish the Association of Indonesian-Serbian friendship in Jakarta, which would certainly help him in his work. Samson said he would try to gather all members of the “Nusantara” at the Embassy of Indonesia at least once a month, for drawing members together and their socializing with Indonesian friends in Serbia.
The Assembly verified the mandates of the new members, adopted financial and operating report, and gathered suggestions for the program for the year 2012.
The hearty atmosphere from the Assembly was maintained throughout the cocktail party which followed.
