“CULTURE AND ARTS OF INDONESIA“ PRESENTATION HELD BY MARIJA SAVIN
The Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship “Nusantara“, in cooperation with the Centre for the teaching activities of “The Foundation of Ilija M. Kolarac“ on Wednesday, 16 November 2011 organized a lecture on “Culture and Arts of Indonesia“. The lecture was given by the publicist and travel writer Mrs Marija Savin who has been a member of the Association „Nusantara“ since its establishment.
In the hall, filled to the last place, Mrs Savin has introduced the audience to many peculiarities of Indonesian culture with special reference to the largest islands – Java, Bali and Sulawesi. The audience could learn which are the traditional Indonesian dances, which gods they believe, which crafts they are skilled in, what they eat, what are their rituals associated with the birth, marriage and dying.
The author made sure that visitors could see the pictures of rice fields, temples made of volcanic magma, bearing the scenes from the traditional poems “Ramayana“ and “Mahabharata“. Visual presentation was accompanied by the traditional Indonesian music played on gamelan and instruments made of bamboo – angklung.
The lecture was attended by newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Indonesia, Mr Jovan Jovanovic, representatives of the Indonesian Embassy in Belgrade, the members of “Nusantara“ Association as well as by many friends of Mrs Marija Savin.
