On the occasion of the Indonesian National Day, the anniversary of the 64th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia, ceremony on Monday, 17th August 2009 the Indonesian Embassy in Belgrade held a reception and national flag hoisting ceremony in the nice spacious yard in front of the Indonesian reseidence, attented, beside the hosts, also by members of the Serbian-Indonesian Friendship Society „Nusantara“.

In his speech, on the the occasion of this Day, the Ambassador of Indonesia in Belgrade, HE M.A. Dalimunthe, hosting of this event, among others recalled the audience how significant it is, at this moment, to remember those who had unselfishly sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country – the independence of Indonesia. He also said that the motto of the Independence Day for this year was „with the spirit of the 17th August 1945 Proclamation we have managed to up lift our political and democratic maturaty life and, we have committed ourselves through unity, security, justice, democracy and development to eccelerate our national economic recovery“.

In connection with the bilateral relations and cooperations between Indonesia and Serbia, he was pleased to state they were in permanent progress, particularly in the field of economy as shown by the fact that recently the delegation of the two countries had met and discussed the draft Agreement to stimulate and enhance the cooperation in this field.

At the end of his speech, Ambassador Dalimunthe appealed to his fellow citizens working and living in Serbia to maintain a strong unity and cooperative in the efforts of the country to reach its goal, that is, to reach social prospertiy through economic development ready to face and survive in coping with the global threats.

After the ceremonial part, the program was continued with games and competition for the children, awarding presents and prizes to winners of the sport competitions organized for this special Day, followed by a formal lunch with Indonesian dishes. This gathering continued accompanied by various amusements.

At the official part of the occasion of the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia, on 19th August 2009, at City Hall, Ambassador Dalimunthe hosted a reception for foreign diplomats accredited in Belgrade, representatives of political and social life in Belgrade. The reception was also attended by members of the Board of Managers and members of the Society „Nusantara“, a big number of high ranking personalities of the government and Parliament. Among the guests were seen the Defence Minister of Serbia, HE Mr. Dragan Šutanovac and Minister without Portfolio of the Republic of Serbia. HE Dr. Sulejman Ugljanin.

In the special program for this event, a group of dancers of the Indonesian dance who had learned this dance at the dancing course at the Indonesiam Embassy in Belgrade, presented some Indonesian folkdances warmly welcomed by the audience while enjoying the flavor of the Indonesian food.
