CELEBRATION OF THE INDEPENDENCE DAY OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA IN BELGRADE

Marking the National holiday– Indonesian Independence Day, on Sunday, 17th August 2008, the Indonesian Embassy in Belgrade organised a function and the ceremonial raising of the National Flag in the Ambassador’s Residence courtyard, attended by all of the members of Nusantara – Serbian-Indonesian Friendship Association. The ceremony was hosted by H. E. Mr. Muhammad Abduh Dalimunthe, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia in Belgrade who thanked all the attending members of the Association. On the occasion of the Independence Day, Chairman of the Nusantara Association, Mr. Dragovan-Bata Lukic handed the appropriate presents to the Ambassador – an art painting “ Four-Leaved Clover“, the work of the Association member, artist Tamara Senekar and a valuable collection of postal stamps from the 20th century. The painting was special as the four-leaved clover represents the symbol of luck and friendship for the Serbian people and included the names of all members of the Association. The Ambassador then invited everyone to the festive luncheon with Indonesian specialties on the menu. The social event continued with a rich cultural-artistic programme in which members of the Association took part.

At the reception on the occasion of the Indonesian Independence Day organised for the diplomatic corps and the representatives of the political, public and cultural life in Belgrade and Serbia on 19th August 2008 at the Belgrade City Hall by the Ambassador of Indonesia, was attended by numerous prominent representatives of executive, legislative and Governmental authorities. The Reception was attended also by H.E. President of the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Boris Tadic and the Serbian Foreign Minister, Mr. Vuk Jeremic.

The art programme at the reception included traditional Indonesian dances performed by the dancers who learned this technique at the dance school organised by the Embassy. Their teacher is Mrs. Ivana Askovic, member of the Nusantara Association.
