75 years of Indonesian independence

The Republic of Indonesia celebrated Independence Day on Saturday, 17 August 2024, marking 79 years of independence. On this occasion, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia organised a formal ceremony at the residence of the Indonesian Ambassador. His Excellency Mr Chandra, the Indonesian Ambassador, invited the members of the Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship “Nusantara” to attend. A ceremonial flag-raising event, which took place on this occasion, was attended by numerous distinguished guests.

In his speech, His Excellency Mr Chandra, the Indonesian Ambassador and the host of the ceremony, recalled that 23 June was established as the Day of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship, which is of great significance for maintaining good relations between Serbia and Indonesia. He also mentioned that on that day, the Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship “Nusantara” illuminated the Avala Tower in the colours of the Indonesian flag,

In Indonesia, this year’s celebration of Independence Day was held in Nusantara, the city that, from that day, became the new capital of Indonesia. The project of relocating the capital of Indonesia was initiated by President Widodo in 2019 through planning and building the future capital named Nusantara.

The formal ceremony was attended by the representatives of the Association leadership: Milan Đokić, Vladimir Ilić, Predrag Karasović, Dr Aleksandar Raković, and Vuk Mirčetić, as well as numerous Association members.
