66th INDEPENDENCE DAY OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA CELEBRATED

On the occasion of the 66th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia, the Embassy of Indonesia in Belgrade, members of the Indonesian community in Serbia, and members of the Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship “Nusantara” participated in the celebration of this national holiday.

In July, The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia organized sports events in badminton, table tennis, gaple (a domino game), bowling, and a humanitarian action of voluntary blood donation, as well as “Folk party” and ” Children’s Day.”

This year’s celebration of the Independence Day “HUT RI Ke-66” was “in the spirit of proclamation on August 17, 1945 increasing the awareness of the life in diversity and strengthening the unity of the Republic of Indonesia, as a success of Indonesian leaders within the ASEAN forum for strengthening ASEAN solidarity.”

The reception dedicated to the Independence Day of Republic of Indonesia was held in the “Hyatt Regency” hotel on September 8, 2011. It was organized by H.E. Mr. Samuel Samson and attended by numerous representatives of the authority and the Army of the Republic of Serbia. Also present were representatives of the diplomatic corps, and many businessmen and representatives of local government, media and cultural life in Serbia and Belgrade, as well as representatives of the Association of Serbian-Indonesian Friendship “Nusantara”. The reception was also attended by the Minister of Defense Mr. Dragan Sutanovac and Minister without portfolio Mr. Ugljanin.

In the foyer of the conference room, the guests had the opportunity to see an exhibition which was organized on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Non-Aligned Movement. The exhibited archive material of the Indonesian Embassy included the photographs of Tito and Sukarno during the first Conference of Non-Aligned Movement held in 1961.

The artistic part of the program was marked by the performance of gamelan orchestra including members of the “Nusantara” Association and the traditional Indonesian dance.

It should be noted that this year’s reception was organized in the year that marks the fiftieth anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Serbia and Indonesia.
